Belgaum - The Sugar Bowl of Karnataka

As the sunlit cloud drifted up in the air, the rivers seemed to glisten by like a bed of diamonds floating ashore. The hills around serenaded with flowers seemed to laugh out with joy tilting their heads to the glory of the sun. A cacophony of sound emerged as the dense forest passed us by. Alas the beauty of Belgaum !!! Belgaum now known as  Belagavi lies in the state of Karnataka. It les in the foothills of the Western ghats and is a city bordering the state of Maharashtra and Goa. The importance of Belgaum has increased manifold over the years and today it is the second capital of Karnataka due to its burgeoning industrial growth.
Belgaum forms an ideal destination for those with a sweet tooth  as one savours the taste of Kunda which explodes our taste buds with a mixture of spices, milk and sugar. As one moves around the city of Belgaum one is enamored by the various sites like the scenic Dudhsagar falls and the Gokak Falls, the holy sites of Kapileshwar temple (South Kashi) and the beauty of the many forest located in it. Other than its natural scenic beauty today Belgaum is known for education. Education sector is seeing a huge headway in Belgaum and today Belgaum boasts of around eight engineering colleges, five medical colleges, and some dental colleges. Owing to this today Belgaum attracts students from all across India. Belgaum also has an  army training center and cantonment for the Indian army and Indian Air force.
“The sugar bowl of Karnataka” this is the name with which Belgaum is famous all over and due to the conducive climate  Belgaum has for sugar cultivation it has today seen the emergence of many industries like Renuka sugars, Ugar Sugar Works. It also forms a mine of natural resources as many deposits of bauxite and uranium have been discovered here. Today Belgaum is emerging as the fastest growing city in Karnataka and is second only to Bangalore. Due to the heavy torrential rainfall which Belgaum experiences, agriculture is also a major contributory to its growing economy. The major boasts to Belgaum’s economy has come from the emergence of heavy engineering industries like machine tools, hydraulic press etc. It also forms an important cluster for foundry as it has more than 200 foundries producing automotive castings. As Belgaum lies near the coast and has proximity to Mumbai,Pune and Bangalore the trade activity here is very high especially with regard to the automotive industry.
Thus, today Belgaum is on the forefront to become an industrial hub in all sense as it has the perfect amalgamation of industries ranging from agriculture to engineering and trading which gives it the correct springboard to reach the zenith of success. Hence with an aim to help the flourishing city of Belgaum develop faster and be a part in this growth story of Belgaum, we  next head to the beautiful city of Belgaum with an aim to learn, leap and grow with it.
