Journey to God's own country- Kerela

The beach roared out loud as a tide made its waves hit ashore, as we dug our feets deep into the hot bed of sands the waves thus came and touched our feets and left. As the sky basked in glory the green trees around seemed illuminated as the water drops looked like drops of pearls thus scintillating by. The roads were wide and long but the green trees were like constant companions to this streets as they always adorned the streets. The coconut trees stood stout and tall, as the roaring of the beach was there. The air was fresh here and seemed to touch our souls. As the rains continued their hide seek we entered into the beautiful state of Kerala which made us awestruck by its beauty such that we felt that indeed it is God’s own country.
The first city in which we stopped in Kerala was Calicut also known as Kozhikode. Calicut is the second largest city in Kerala. Calicut is also known as the land of sculptures because many architectural monuments are found here. Calicut is serenaded by many a beautiful hills that add to its beauty. Calicut is a very advanced city as the literacy rate here is around 96.8% which is very high than the national average.

The entrepreneurial spirit which the people of Calicut have can be gauged from the fact that ASSOCHAM in its study in 2007 ranked Calicut as the eleventh city among tier II cities in the domain of job creation. This spirit was present in the people of Calicut from earlier times as Calicut was the most frequented place by traders from early days. As Ibn Batuta (A.D. 1342–47) a world traveller has said "We came next to Kalikut, one of the great ports of the district of Malabar, and in which merchants of all parts are found."Calicut is also known as the city of spices as it majorly trades in spices. It is the main trading center for coffee, grass oil and spices. Business contributes the most in the economy of Calicut. There is a presence of ports which provide Calicut with an advantage for business. There are large timber yards also present here and now IT parks and special economic zones (SEZ) are coming in the city of Calicut.

Thus, with an aim to help the industries of Calicut to grow further and also learn from them in the process we next stop at Calicut.
