Day 41 of Mentor on Road, USA

“Have faith in yourselves, and stand up on that faith and be strong; that is what we need.
-Swami Vivekananda

Day 41 of Mentor on Road is a drive from San Francisco to Crescent city, California. Since we do not have any events lined up today, Mentor on Road decided to take a break and go for a
city tour and enjoy the beautiful weather in Crescent.

While driving we came across a wonderful sunset over Pacific Ocean in Crescent city. It was a foggy day; we thoroughly enjoyed our journey passing through picturesque views of mountains, ocean and forest.

Crescent City is the county seat and only incorporated city in Del Norte County, California. Named for the crescent-shaped stretch of sandy beach south of the city, Crescent City has a total population of 6670 according to the July 2016 censusThe city is located on the Pacific coast in the upper north-western part of California, about 20 miles (32 km) south of the Oregon border.

Crescent City has a cool-summer
mediterranean climate, with moderation similar to an
oceanic climate. It is one of the wettest places in California: the annual rainfall is 71.24 inches or 1,810 millimetres.

The wettest months are from October to March; the wettest month is December with 13.70 inches or 348.0 millimetres and the driest month is July with 0.35 inches or 8.9 millimetres.

Highway access is provided by U.S. Route 101 that runs directly through the city, connecting the Oregon Coast to the north and Eureka to the south. U.S. Route 199
begins just north of Crescent city and heads northeast to Grants Pass, Oregon. The junction of U.S. Routes 101 and 199 is one of only two junctions of two U.S. Routes in California, the other being the junction of U.S. Routes 6 and 395 in Bishop.

The Crescent city Harbor serves as a commercial fishing port for salmonshrimptunacod, and dungeness crab commercial fishing vessels. The Harbor is also home to multiple fishing and non-fishing related businesses and harbor governmental offices. The Crescent city Harbor also has several pleasure boat docks.

We then headed to Crescent city beach where we completely enjoyed the family time walking along the shoreline. Crescent Beach is a long and wide beach immediately south of Crescent City. Just south of the parking lot is a wetland area where Mill Creek pools up before flowing across the sand. There is a beach overlook at the end of Enderts Beach Road that looks back over the entire length of Crescent Beach. The half-mile hike to
Enderts Beach begins near the overlook.

Mentor on Road enjoyed a day off from all the events and meetings. We look forward to an exciting and constructive day tomorrow.

Jai ho! (Let victory be yours)
